Newcastle United want to add more bodies in the summer transfer window, but they could sign someone likened to Lionel Messi in six months if they play their cards right.
This summer is expected to be a big one for the Magpies, with several players linked with moves to Tyneside to help strengthen the squad ahead of the upcoming Champions League campaign.
Newcastle United players and staff have already made it clear that a big summer transfer window should be in the pipeline after three windows without signing a single player for the first team.
Bruno Guimaraes called for Newcastle to make new signings immediately after they qualified for the Champions League. Manager Eddie Howe held a transfer meeting with PIF on the same day as the final Premier League game to establish what they needed in the summer.
Something Newcastle do not do very often is look to sign players who are set to become free agents. Only two players have joined on a free in recent memory, with Lloyd Kelly signing from Bournemouth and Antonio Cordero recently joining Newcastle from Malaga.
It is an easy way to get players in without having to pay high transfer fees, leaving just wages as the main talking point between player and club. With Newcastle in need of new signings, they have a golden opportunity to bring a player who has bags of quality and potential to the club.

Newcastle United should consider signing Roony Bardghji on a free transfer
At just 19 years old, FC Copenhagen winger Roony Bardghji has already made a big name for himself in European football.
Bardghji, dubbed the ‘Swedish Lionel Messi’ by Sportskeeda, broke into Copenhagen’s starting XI in 2021 when he was just 16 and even played in the Conference League that same season.
It was reported earlier in 2025 that Newcastle wanted to sign Bardghji, who had only just returned from an ACL injury at the time, but it is even clearer that they should bring him to the club after he confirmed that he does not want to renew his existing contract with Copenhagen.
One of Europe’s hottest prospects is available to sign on a free and Newcastle should be all over it. The Sweden Under-21 star has already played Champions League football, so he is fully aware of what it is like to play in the competition.
| Career Statistics | Roony Bardghji |
| Appearances | 84 |
| Goals | 15 |
| Assists | 1 |
Additionally, signing Bardghji would help Newcastle tremendously. The Magpies are in desperate need of players on the right wing. Bardghji’s most natural position is there, so it makes perfect sense to bring him to the club.
The only kicker is that his contract does not run out until the end of 2025, so Newcastle would not be able to sign him for free this summer. However, if they were desperate, then a fee could surely be agreed upon between the two clubs.

Newcastle United would have a secret weapon for Roony Bardghji talks
If Newcastle want to get a deal done for the winger, they must act fast. It has been reported that Portuguese side FC Porto have already sent their formal offer to Bardghji for a possible free transfer.
The youngster has not agreed to anything yet, so Newcastle can still steal in and do a deal.
An advantage for Newcastle is that they have two Swedish players on their books who could take Bardghji under their wing to help him settle in much easier on Tyneside.
Alexander Isak and Emil Krafth are the Swedish duo at Newcastle, and seem to have a good relationship with each other both on and off the pitch. The pair play together for the Swedish national team, and could soon welcome Bardghji to the senior squad if he hits good form at a new club.
Knowing that he has two players at the club who could help him will surely sway Bardghji’s decision and make him consider a move to the North East even more.
