Liverpool should be paying close attention to Newcastle United’s interest in Yoane Wissa as they continue to eye Alexander Isak.
After missing out on Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool, the Magpies are taking their striker search elsewhere. Newcastle have moved for Yoane Wissa, with the 28-year-old leaving Brentford’s pre-season training camp amid speculation over his future.
It has been reported that Wissa is open to joining Newcastle United, while Geordie Boot Boys understand that a £30million bid is being prepared.

Yoane Wissa approach suggests Alexander Isak is staying at Newcastle United
But what does all of this have to do with Liverpool’s interest in Alexander Isak? In truth, it is probably better news for the Toon Army than Arne Slot.
While the Reds still dream of signing him after bringing in Ekitike, the reality is Newcastle do not want to sell Isak.
If there was a possibility he could leave, Newcastle United would be going bigger in their search for a striker. A much more lucrative name would be on the Magpies’ radar than Wissa.
That is not to say Wissa will not be an excellent signing for Eddie Howe if a deal can be done. He is perfect for what Newcastle want, as they chase an understudy for Isak.
If Newcastle’s interest in Ekitike was not going to result in Isak leaving, neither is this move for Wissa.
Liverpool might think Newcastle approaching a striker helps them, but that is not the case in this instance.

Newcastle United have a bigger problem when it comes to Yoane Wissa
While Newcastle’s pursuit of Wissa is not going to help Liverpool sign Isak, there are no guarantees that the Toon recruitment team will get this deal done.
The Magpies are not in a one-horse race, with Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest also chasing the Brentford striker.
Interest from Spurs should be particularly worrying for Newcastle, as there are two reasons why they could have an edge.
Firstly, a move to Spurs would reunite him with Thomas Frank. He has swapped the Gtech Community Stadium for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and could bring Wissa with him after failing to land Bryan Mbeumo ahead of Manchester United.
Secondly, a move to Spurs would allow Wissa to remain in London. He has lived in the capital for four years, having joined Brentford in 2021.
Combine those factors with Spurs also being in the Champions League alongside Newcastle United and it is easy to understand why some Toon fans are trying not to fall in love with the idea of Wissa at St James’ Park.
