Newcastle United’s PSR situation is very different in 2025 to 2024.
last year, Newcastle United were in a desperate financial situation.
As June 30th loomed, the Magpies needed to recoup more than £50million. The situation was so desperate that Newcastle looked to sell Anthony Gordon.
An alternative emerged, as Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson left to join Brighton and Nottingham Forest respectively. With Newcastle also getting compensation from Manchester United for Dan Ashworth, they managed to comply with PSR.
There will be no such drama in 2025. Newcastle are in a stronger PSR position. That is thanks to Miguel Almiron leaving in January, as well as the fact that the Magpies have barely invested during the previous two transfer windows.
There will be no mad rush on June 30th for Newcastle United, but the same cannot be said for some of their Premier League rivals.

Chelsea aim to sign Aston Villa star
It remains to be seen which Premier League clubs are going to have to sell before June 30th to comply with PSR.
However, the Independent report that Chelsea are interested in exploiting Aston Villa’s financial situation and signing Morgan Rogers.
The report claims that Chelsea believe they might be able to do business with Aston Villa, and are keen to bring the 22-year-old to Stamford Bridge.
The Independent add that while Villa do not want to sell Rogers, PSR may force various clubs like them to make transfer decisions that they do not want to make.
Newcastle United planning to keep top stars like Sandro Tonali
While Newcastle United are not under any pressure to sell any of their top stars this summer, it could be a different story for Aston Villa.
That would be a major shame for Unai Emery’s side, as they continue to follow Newcastle on this journey to gate crash the ‘big six’.
Both clubs have enjoyed remarkable rises, yet continue to be held back by PSR.
Fortunately for the Magpies, they are not in a position where they need to cash in on a superstar. Instead, they are planning to retain their best players.
According to the Telegraph, Newcastle expect Sandro Tonali to stay at the club despite interest from Italy.
Elsewhere, Liverpool’s chances of signing Alexander Isak are currently ‘slim’.
