Newcastle United exit must now beckon for £300k wonderkid after Eddie Howe decision

There are plenty of talking points coming out of the Newcastle United squad that Eddie Howe has taken to Japan.

Some major Newcastle United players are missing, with Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon given extended breaks after reaching the final of Euro 2024 with England.

Callum Wilson is also absent, with the 32-year-old suffering from a back injury that has resulted in Newcastle stepping up their search for a striker.

But Bruno Guimaraes has met his Newcastle United teammates in Japan, while Miguel Almiron, Fabian Schar and Martin Dubravka are also back after competing at the Copa America and the Euros.

Eddie Howe has also taken various youngsters on the pre-season trip, with the likes of Trevan Sanusi and Alfie Harrison named in the Newcastle United squad.

However, another teenager is conspicuous by his absence.

Garang Kuol not in Newcastle United squad for Japan trip

Newcastle United have taken 29 players to Japan, one of which is Sandro Tonali. He will not be able to compete in either of the Magpies’ friendlies.

There are also six goalkeepers, with Dubravka joined by Nick Pope, John Ruddy, Odysseas Vlachodimos, Mark Gillespie and Max Thompson.

That means that Howe only has 22 outfield players who can play in Japan, which makes it strange to see Garang Kuol not included in the squad.

Kuol was part of the group that travelled to Germany, while he was on the bench for Saturday’s friendly win over Hull City.

But while the rest of the squad headed to Japan after beating Hull, the 19-year-old has not made the journey. He was not named in the squad.

Loan exit must beckon for Garang Kuol

With Kuol, who cost Newcastle £300,000 in January 2023, not included in the squad competing in Japan, questions will be asked about his future.

Newcastle could have benefitted from having a bit more depth, particularly in attack, which makes Kuol’s absence all the more interesting.

Surely it means that a loan move away from St James’ Park beckons for the teenager. Eddie Howe did say in May that Kuol could be loaned out again, after two disappointing spells away from Tyneside.

Now a third temporary departure could be on the horizon, with his next move set to be a pivotal moment in his Newcastle United career.

Howe has finally had the chance to work closely with Kuol, and will now have a better idea of whether or not he is going to develop into a first-team star at St James’ Park.

Another loan move could be vital towards his development, and hopefully a deal is on the horizon. If it is not then the fact he is not in Japan is very concerning.
