Newcastle should be very worried about what Fulham are trying to do as Marc Guehi talks continue

Newcastle United’s pursuit of Marc Guehi is proving to be far from straightforward.

The Magpies are continuing to target the Crystal Palace centre-back, but securing a deal for Marc Guehi continues to be a challenge.

Newcastle’s second Guehi bid was rejected last week, as talks continue over the 24-year-old swapping Selhurst Park for St James’ Park.

There is still hope that he will arrive, with Guehi keen to sign for Newcastle. However, that is dependent on Crystal Palace accepting an offer, as they weigh up whether to cash in on one of their most valuable players.

They have already sold Michael Olise to Bayern Munich this summer, while there continues to be rumours regarding Eberechi Eze’s future.

Marc Guehi’s centre-back partner linked with leaving Crystal Palace

Guehi could go too, while recent developments at Fulham suggest that another Crystal Palace player is at risk of being sold. However, they are developments that should concern Newcastle United officials.

While Newcastle are trying to land Guehi, Fulham are targeting his centre-back partner.

According to the Athletic, Fulham have offered £20million to sign Joachim Andersen from Crystal Palace.

They report that the Eagles are looking for double that amount – £40million – with talks between the two clubs set to continue.

Andersen has been linked with Newcastle this summer, while he is also a former Fulham player. The Denmark international spent a year on loan at Craven Cottage, and could now return for a second spell.

Fulham bid should put Newcastle United under pressure

Fulham’s interest in Andersen should greatly concern Newcastle United.

If they reach an agreement with Palace to sign the 28-year-old, that will surely decrease the likelihood of them accepting an offer Guehi.

It is hard to imagine Crystal Palace selling both of their starting centre-backs, especially because neither of them have release clauses in their contracts. And with money already raised from the Olise deal, Palace surely are not under pressure to sell.

They obviously want to keep Guehi, and you would assume they would rather retain him over Andersen. After all, he is four years younger and his transfer value may only increase.

That is why Fulham’s approach for Andersen puts Newcastle under pressure. There should already be a sense of urgency regarding Guehi, but it should intensify even further amid fears that Palace may become even more unwilling to sell.
