Newcastle United are plotting their next move in the transfer market after signing Sandro Tonali, and it could see Toon officials strengthen the midfield further.
The Magpies are keen to sign another ‘high calibre’ midfielder after Tonali, although that will be difficult due to financial reasons.
Newcastle are continuing to be careful with their summer spending, while there is multiple positions that they would like to strengthen in. As well as another midfielder, Eddie Howe is looking for a centre-back, a left-back and a winger.
Therefore, the club will need to be savvy to get their most out of their budget, which could mean signing players from relegated teams like Leeds United.
Newcastle really like Tyler Adams
The Magpies have been linked with signing Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams. He is a player who caught scouts’ attention during a performance at St James’ Park last season, with Toon officials impressed with the American’s showing.

i News have now stated that the 24-year-old is still a player who Newcastle greatly admire, so perhaps he could be the answer to our midfield conundrum.
While he perhaps is not the ‘high calibre’ player who the club want, he could prove to be an astute option. The ‘incredible‘ 24-year-old was one of Leeds’ standout players last season, and would offer Howe even more depth in the middle of the park.
Leeds will be keen to get as much money as possible for Adams, but Newcastle have an ace up their sleeve that could help them grab a bargain.
Karl Darlow could help Adams bid
Newcastle want a player from Leeds, while Leeds want a player from Newcastle.
The Yorkshire club are interested in signing Karl Darlow, who looks set to leave St James’ Park ahead of next season. He spent the second half of the previous campaign at Hull City, and now seems destined for a permanent move to the Championship.

Leeds could offer him regular football, while a move to Elland Road might appeal as he would not have to relocate his family – like he would if he were to join Bournemouth, who have been linked.
And a switch to Leeds could suit Newcastle too, as it could allow them to include the goalkeeper in a deal to bring Adams to St James’ Park. That would allow them to drive the USA international’s price down, and get someone off of their own wage bill.
It could be the ideal solution, but it will all depend on how keen Newcastle are on signing Adams, and whether or not Leeds is Darlow’s first choice destination.
