In another world, Marc Guehi would be visiting Selhurst Park this weekend as a Newcastle United player.
Newcastle United pushed hard to sign a centre-back over the summer and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi was the number one target.
However, Newcastle failed to land Guehi in the summer despite submitting a bid of £65m for the 24-year-old defender.
Guehi was superb for England at Euro 2024 which caused his price tag to skyrocket over the summer window. Ultimately, Newcastle pulled out of the bidding for Guehi when Palace raised their asking price to over £70m.

Marc Guehi will face Newcastle United this weekend
Despite a summer move collapsing, Newcastle remain interested in Guehi heading into 2025.
A centre-back is still at the very top of Newcastle’s shopping list and sporting director Paul Mitchell is under increasing pressure to deliver some exciting signings at St James’ Park.
A move for Guehi in January would leave a big dent in the transfer budget, but he can prove to Newcastle on Saturday afternoon why he is worth it.
Newcastle face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon and Guehi is expected to start for the hosts having played every single minute of their Premier League campaign so far.

With just weeks to go until the January window opens, Guehi can use Saturday as an audition for a Newcastle move.
Marc Guehi will have to buck trend to impress Newcastle
Both sets of fans will be keeping a keen eye on Guehi’s performance this weekend knowing that it could determine his future.
Guehi will want to impress, but a glance at his record in this fixture proves he usually struggles.
In fact, Guehi has faced Newcastle six times in his career and failed to win any of them. He has drawn three and lost three.

Palace beat Newcastle 2-0 at Selhurst Park last season but Guehi was out with a knee injury at the time.
Guehi’s last appearance against Newcastle came in October 2023 when the Magpies won 4-0 at St James’ Park. To make matters worse, Guehi made a costly mistake when he slipped late into the first half which led to Sean Longstaff’s goal.
If he is going to impress Newcastle and make a statement ahead of the January window, he will have to avoid a repeat of that mistake on Saturday.
