Jacob Ramsey endured a rather difficult first Premier League start as a Newcastle United player at St James’ Park.
Ramsey gave away a late penalty with what looked like an avoidable handball in Newcastle United’s 2-1 win over Burnley.
It certainly wasn’t the best of performances from the former Aston Villa midfielder, who joined Eddie Howe’s side in August for a fee that could eventually rise to £43million.

Clearly, the move is yet to have worked out. Still, these are early days and it’s worth remembering that Ramsey suffered an ankle injury back in August.
That has so far limited him to only three starts across all competitions. Saturday was his first one in the Premier League at St James’ Park.
Newcastle, along with Ramsey, weren’t at their vintage best, but the 24-year-old summed it up best on social media on Sunday.

Jacob Ramsey quickly moving on after Newcastle United’s win over Burnley
Over 24 hours after a largely forgettable win over the Clarets outside of a moment of magic from Bruno Guimaraes and Yoane Wissa’s debut, Ramsey took to Instagram.
It was a short but sweet message, but it was a fine way of putting Newcastle’s current situation into context.
He captioned a collage of images from the game: “W. Onto Wednesday.”
It’s difficult to argue with that. Newcastle got a crucial three points and now must look ahead to another busy week of action, starting with Wednesday’s Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen.
They weren’t great but it’s at least a platform from which to build.

Why Jacob Ramsey hasn’t been playing for Newcastle United very much recently
It’s important to not be too down on the ex-England U21 international.
Back in August, Ramsey played very well on his Newcastle debut against Liverpool, after all.
While the start of his Newcastle career hasn’t been absolutely perfect, it’s not as if there haven’t been any bright spots at all.
Howe appears to be convinced that Ramsey will come good for Newcastle on a full-time basis, too.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference before the Burnley game, the Newcastle United manager claimed the impact of the ankle injury he suffered against Leeds in August had been holding him back.
“He’s doing really well, JJ, we’re building him,” said Howe.
“Physically, [we’re] getting him to understand how we play. I’ve been very pleased with him, actually.
“He’s a very, very good footballer and I think we’ll all see that very soon. Very composed, very rarely gives the ball away, but is creative as well.
“He had a nasty ankle injury at Leeds and, when he came back, it was a case of you could see he was a little bit short of fitness of where he needed to be to execute what we want him to do.
“But he’s getting there and he’s in a lot better a place now.”
