Enzo Maresca has just warned Newcastle why they shouldn’t be signing Noni Madueke from Chelsea

Newcastle United are hoping to sign a right winger before the transfer window closes, with Noni Madueke linked with a move to Tyneside.

The 22-year-old is on Newcastle United‘s radar, as they search for a player who is an upgrade on Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy.

Newcastle believe that Noni Madueke has plenty of potential, and he could be the player that the Magpies end up targeting.

Eddie Howe really likes Madueke, while it has been reported that Newcastle are ‘actively looking’ to sign a winger before the transfer window closes on August 30th.

The £29million man is certainly a player to keep an eye on heading towards transfer deadline day, and he reminded fans of his quality on Thursday night.

Madueke came on in the second half of Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Servette at Stamford Bridge, as they aim to qualify for the Europa Conference League. It was a great goal by the winger, who was played in behind by Enzo Fernandez before firing a powerful effort into the roof of the net with his right foot.

Enzo Maresca comments on Noni Madueke after Chelsea goal

It was an impressive strike from Madueke, and Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was asked about the attacker after the final whistle.

As you would expect, Maresca was complimentary towards a player who had just scored a goal, but he did make one point that should interest Newcastle United fans who are wondering whether Madueke would be a good addition to Eddie Howe’s squad.

‘I really like Noni,” he said, as quoted by The Metro.

“The only problem with him is he has to understand he needs consistency during the week in every training session.

“But he is a good player and he is doing well with us since we started.

“Yes, absolutely [I want him to stay]. But the problem is, the reality is that until the transfer window is not open, anything can happen. But for sure, Noni is the type of player that I like.”

Newcastle must take note of Maresca’s Madueke assessment

There is a lot to unpack from what Maresca said about Madueke.

Firstly, he is a fan of the winger and wants him to stay at Stamford Bridge. However, he would not guarantee that Madueke will not leave, given the ‘anything can happen’ nature of the transfer window.

But the most interesting thing that Maresca said was about Madueke’s need for consistency in training. That should set alarms off at Newcastle, as they ponder whether or not to try and sign the former PSV Eindhoven attacker.

Under Eddie Howe, training is pivotal. His mantra on Tyneside is ‘we train as we play’. That is where the hard work happens, and it ensures Howe’s players become the best versions of themselves and are fully prepared for competitive games.

At Chelsea, Maresca is looking for more from Madueke in training. He has taken charge of two Chelsea games so far, and has not started Madueke in either of them. That could be a reflection of his output in training, resulting in Maresca calling for more consistency.

On the pitch, Newcastle already have inconsistency on the right. Jacob Murphy is enjoying a purple patch right now, but his form always fluctuates. The same can be said for Miguel Almiron, whose form appears to have dipped due to a lack of confidence.

Howe does not have a right winger who he can fully trust to deliver in big moments like Anthony Gordon does on the opposite flank, and Maresca’s comments suggest that Madueke might not necessarily rectify that problem.

What is currently happening regarding Noni Madueke to Newcastle

As Newcastle weigh up who to target to fill that right wing position, there has been an update on the situation regarding Madueke and a possible move to Tyneside.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are not actively pursuing a deal to sign Madueke right now.

They add that it is unlikely that the Magpies will have much money to spend on a winger if they complete a deal to sign Marc Guehi, with the 24-year-old due to cost a club record fee for Newcastle United.
