Newcastle United silenced their critics with a superb 2-0 victory over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

Just days after losing 2-1 to the Blues in the Premier League, Newcastle United got their revenge at St James’ Park.

Alexander Isak opened the scoring for the hosts and Newcastle’s lead was doubled just three minutes later when Axel Disasi scored an own goal following Joe Willock’s header.

Newcastle have now booked their spot in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup, where they are set to face Brentford. The tie will be scheduled on the week starting December 16th.

Isak put on a superstar display against Chelsea and will deservedly hog the headlines, but one Newcastle teammate in particular also deserves to be showered in praise.

Lewis Hall was excellent for Newcastle United vs Chelsea

No player has impressed more over the last week than Lewis Hall has in the two games against his former side.

Hall was superb at Stamford Bridge despite Newcastle failing to pick up any points. Howe singled out Hall for praise after that match, hailing him as “outstanding”.

Howe made five changes to his starting lineup for the second leg of Newcastle’s double-header against Chelsea, but Hall kept his starting spot at left-back.

The 20-year-old, who made his move from Chelsea to Newcastle permanent this summer for £28m, put on another impressive display up against Joao Felix and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Before being substituted for Dan Burn with 20 minutes remaining, Hall ended his match with 46 touches and a passing accuracy of 77 percent.

Lewis Hall is growing into the star Newcastle hoped he would be

Newcastle rolled the dice when they spent such a big sum of money on an 18-year-old Hall last summer.

The young defender had to be patient as he worked his way into Howe’s plans, with his first real run in the side coming towards the latter stages of last season.

Howe has put his faith in Hall as a regular starter this season and the English full-back is now repaying him with some excellent performances.

It was pointed out by Howe that Hall has been “really strong” this season and that he is constantly showing signs of improving.

He looks more and more comfortable every match and he has well and truly claimed the left-back spot as his own.

Newcastle have a star on their hands.
