Max Anthony Thompson is a professional goalkeeper who plays for Newcastle.

A local lad, Thompson joined his boyhood club when he was just 11 years old and made his way through the youth ranks to make it at senior level.

The shot-stopper has spent two stints out on loan, at Northampton Town and Chesterfield, though neither spell went particularly well for him.

Newcastle’s official profile of Thompson provides some additional details. It reads: “The highly-rated goalkeeper has trained regularly with United’s first-team and featured on the bench for Newcastle’s pre-season friendlies against York City and Doncaster Rovers, at the age of 16, during the 2021/22 campaign.

“The young shot-stopper has represented England at under-18 level, recording a clean sheet on his debut for the Young Lions in a 3-0 friendly win over Russia in October 2021.

“The tall teenager made his under-21s debut for Newcastle’s second-string in a Premier League 2 clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers in November 2020 at the age of 16.”

Thompson was born in none other than Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England on August 1, 2004. As of July 2025, he is 20 years old but will soon turn 21.
