Newcastle United are hoping that Bruno Guimaraes returns from international duty fully fit.

The 26-year-old is currently away with Brazil, competing in two World Cup qualifiers. The first ended in a 2-1 win, with Brazil coming from behind to beat Chile.

Bruno Guimaraes did not start that game. The Newcastle United midfielder was dropped to the bench, but did come on at half-time.

He proved to have quite the impact, getting the assist for Brazil’s 89th minute winner. After the game, Bruno Guimaraes was praised by the Brazilian media for his performance.

Now Bruno will hope that his cameo is enough for him to win his place back in the Brazil starting XI.

Bruno Guimaraes set to start for Brazil against Peru

Next up for Brazil and Bruno is a home game against Peru. That takes place in the early hours of Wednesday morning BST.

Brazilian website Globo Esporte have published the expected starting lineup for the Selecao, and it is good news for Bruno.

They report that the Newcastle United captain is going to return to the starting XI, taking the place of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Andre in the middle of midfield.

Globo Esporte add that Bruno will be joined in the middle of the park by Gerson, with close friend Lucas Paqueta suspended.

The expected XI also includes Premier League stars Ederson Moraes, Gabriel Magalhaes and Savinho.

Bruno Guimaraes expected back late ahead of Newcastle vs Brighton

It is going to be a quick turnaround for Bruno Guimaraes, as Newcastle United prepare to take on Brighton And Hove Albion on Saturday at St James’ Park.

With Bruno’s final Brazil game coming in the early hours of Wednesday morning, he is not going to be back on Tyneside until Thursday or Friday – probably the latter.

The same goes for Miguel Almiron, who is also in action for Paraguay on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.

Out of the 12 Newcastle players away on international duty, Bruno and Miggy will be the last players to return to Tyneside after this international break. However, it might not impact Eddie Howe’s team selection too much.

There is no way that Bruno is not going to start against Brighton, while it would be a huge shock to see Almiron start his first Premier League game of the season – despite a bright cameo against Everton.

Away from those players, Kieran Trippier is set to miss the Brighton game due to injury. Elsewhere, Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson are expected to be available for Newcastle.
