Newcastle United picked up a massive win over Aston Villa on Tuesday night, but it may have come at a price.
The Magpies won 3-1 at Villa Park, moving them up to seventh in the Premier League after four defeats on the bounce.
It could prove to be a massive three points for Newcastle, but there was one negative coming out of the trip to the West Midlands.
Alexander Isak started the game up front, but he was not able to finish it. He was forced off shortly before half time, with the returning Miguel Almiron taking his place.
It was massively concerning to see the 24-year-old forward limp off, and Eddie Howe provided an update on his condition after the game.
Eddie Howe offers update on Alexander Isak
Immediately after the game, Howe spoke to TNT Sports. He was asked to offer an update on how Isak was doing after he was forced off.
“We don’t really know,” he said.
“It doesn’t look too serious. Looks like a slight groin injury but hopefully we get him back soon.”

Newcastle could have a major striker problem now
Howe does not seem too concerned about Isak, but there is every chance that he could be set for a spell on the sidelines. But even if that is the case, Howe’s comments suggest it might not be a lengthy layoff.
Regardless, it is massively concerning given Newcastle’s lack of strikers. As it stands, the Magpies have got no one. Callum Wilson is also out of action, and was expected to return for the game at Villa Park.
That obviously did not happen, and now Howe will be desperate for the 31-year-old to be available for Saturday’s game against Luton Town. If not, Anthony Gordon may have to play up front.
Newcastle also have the option of signing another forward, as the transfer window is still open until Thursday night. However, that will be extremely difficult given the club’s situation regarding profit and sustainability rules.
That makes Isak’s injury even more concerning, and Toon fans will have everything crossed that it is nothing too serious. The Sweden international is Newcastle’s top scorer this season, with 14 goals to his name.
