Ally McCoist was completely amazed by what one Newcastle United player did in their 3-1 victory over Aston Villa last night.
Newcastle came into the game having lost their last four in the Premier League and still waiting on a whole host of players to return from injury.
However, that didn’t stop them from running riot at Villa Park and McCoist, on commentary for TNT Sports, was particularly impressed with what Miguel Almiron did for Newcastle’s third goal.
McCoist says key Newcastle man did something ‘magnificent’ last night
It’s been a while since we’ve seen a vintage Newcastle performance under Eddie Howe in the league with the team falling to 10th after a very bad run of results in December and the beginning of January.
However, last night’s result was a very promising sign for the Geordie supporters and the team have now climbed up to eighth in the table as they look to challenge once again for the European positions.
While it’s a big worry that Alexander Isak was forced off injured in the first half, it allowed Almiron to come onto the left side where the £21m winger grabbed an assist for Jacob Murphy’s first and Newcastle’s third goal of the evening.
McCoist was particularly impressed with the Paraguayan’s cross into Murphy’s pass which he described as being ‘magnificent’ after a great team move.
On commentary, McCoist said: “It’s a tremendous move. The weighted pass from Almiron is different class I’ve got to say. That is a magnificent ball.”

Newcastle hoping they’ve turned a corner
Despite what some in the media may have you believe regarding Newcastle’s struggling form, there’s still so much for the Magpies to play for this season and especially now after what is such a big win.
This fixture wasn’t exactly viewed as a free hit like the games against Man City and Liverpool were, but given Villa’s unbelievable home form it would have been forgiven if Newcastle had not gotten a result.
However, with the three points in the bag Newcastle can now look to their next run of fixtures which is looking so much kinder than the last, kicking off with a home game against Luton on Saturday.
Howe will be hoping that the team can showcase a similar level of energy in the coming weeks as they did at Villa Park with the Champions League spots still far away but not totally out of reach just yet.
