When Newcastle could make plans to actually sign a right winger

It seems rather obvious that Newcastle United are keen on a new right-winger.

In fact, it’s believed that strengthening in that particular position is something of a target for Newcastle during what remains of this summer’s transfer window, albeit actually landing one may not be easy.

Indeed, spending is down across the Premier League as it stands, making for a rather slow window thus far.

Newcastle appear to be focusing their attention on signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, which may now have an impact on what they do the winger front.

Chelsea’s Noni Madueke has been linked of late, though the Daily Mirror now provide an update.

Newcastle could now stall on move for new winger

They suggest that plans to sign a new option there could be shelved until future transfer windows, though they do again tout Madueke as a potential target.

That may be disappointing for supporters to read but is perhaps more an indication on the current financial climate in the Premier League, more than anything about Newcastle’s attitude to spending.

Newcastle frustrated by financial limitations

Those behind the scenes at the club are said to have been frustrated about the level of impact the PSR rules are having on their spending.

Still, rules are rules – and the club seemingly only just avoided punishment for breaking them by selling Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.

Eddie Howe has done a remarkable job on the coaching pitch since taking over at the club, yielding vast improvements out of players.

If no new winger is signed this summer, he’ll have to do so again with Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy.

Murphy has shone in pre-season but Almiron needs to get back to the levels he showed in the 2022-23 campaign if he’s to have any chance of starting on a regular basis.
