What the Newcastle owners are now expecting from the second half of the season

The first half of the season was filled with incredible moments for Newcastle United, but it has not set Eddie Howe’s team up for success in the second half.

While the Champions League campaign created moments that will last a lifetime like the win over Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle were also dumped out of the competition in heartbreaking fashion.

The Magpies’ domestic form also suffered as a result of the club’s European commitments, with Eddie Howe enduring an injury crisis that has left him wondering if he needs to get his boots out of the loft and play himself.

There was so much promise heading into this season, but it had largely disappeared by the end of 2023. Newcastle are out of the Champions League and out of the Carabao Cup, while there is absolutely no way we are going to do as well in the Premier League as we did last season.

There has been a lot of noise from the media about Eddie Howe now being under pressure at St James’ Park, but that is not how the situation is being viewed by the owners.

How the Newcastle owners feel about the second half of the season

According to iNews, the Newcastle hierarchy are calm about the current season. They state that the owners believe that the Magpies can climb up the Premier League table and challenge for Europe again in the second half of the season. That is because players will be returning from injury and the fixture schedule is much less intense.

I share the owners’ confidence, but challenging for Europe this season is definitely not going to result in Champions League football returning to Tyneside. Instead, it will likely mean either the Europa League or the Europa Conference League.

But they will be good challenges for Newcastle, and a chance for fans to travel the continent again and represent the club.

Newcastle have a lot of competition for Europe

However, even challenging to qualify for those competitions will be challenging. There are plenty of teams in the mix, with just six points separating West Ham United in sixth and Wolverhampton Wanderers in 11th.

Newcastle are currently in 10th, but will believe they can push higher up the table very soon. After our trip to Aston Villa, our fixtures are much more palatable. Howe’s side have a real chance to go on a good run and push for Europe once again.

That is what the owners believe will happen, and they will be boosted by Joe Willock’s latest Instagram message as he continues his recovery from injury.

Once we get the likes of him and Harvey Barnes back from injury, our squad will be looking much stronger and more capable of a strong second half to the season.
