Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon endured a difficult time of things at Euro 2024 with England.
The Newcastle winger has been rather public in his comments about what happened this summer.
Indeed, Gordon confirmed he was hugely disappointed to have only been handed a few minutes by former England boss Gareth Southgate during the tournament, while he has since described England’s campaign as a “failure” despite them having reached the final.
Gordon’s lack of involvement during the Euros was certainly strange. The 23-year-old had enjoyed a brilliant season at club level and looked a much more natural option than Phil Foden on the left.
That’s not to say Gordon is a better player than Foden of course but there was certainly a school of thought suggesting he may offer the team better balance.
People close to the players were reportedly questioning why neither Gordon or Cole Palmer were getting more minutes during the group stage, albeit the Chelsea star did get more involved as the tournament progressed.
Now, some insight into Southgate’s stance have emerged.
What Anthony Gordon may have done to annoy Gareth Southgate at Euro 2024
According to the Daily Mail, there were suggestions Southgate had been “miffed” about Gordon crashing off his bike in training because he was using his mobile phone at the time.

Gordon publicly claiming he could make England a more unpredictable outfit is also said to not have gone down well amongst management.
Anthony Gordon’s England career has already got better
Quite whether or not England starting Gordon more regularly would have seen them win Euro 2024 is obviously up for debate. They reached the final and only narrowly lost to Spain, after all.
It was, however, a missed opportunity for the player.
Still, things appear to be on the up for Gordon. Interim Three Lions boss Lee Carsley was pleased with his performance against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday, perhaps suggesting he will start be more regularly involved from here onwards.
