Newcastle United have five huge games remaining in the battle for Champions League qualification.  

Though the Premier League will be afforded five spots for the Champions League next season, that hasn’t made the task any easier for Newcastle United. 

Newcastle sit fifth in the Premier League table, albeit they have a game in hand on third-placed Manchester City.

The race is tight. Aston Villa beat Newcastle 4-1 on Saturday evening, complicating matters further.  

Still, City beat Villa in dramatic fashion on Tuesday evening, adding yet another twist and turn into the race.  

Having watched Unai Emery’s side lose in the final minute of the game at the Etihad Stadium, Newcastle fans on social media were all saying the same thing.

Newcastle United fans on social media saying the same thing about Aston Villa’s defeat  

The response was rather unanimous.

Newcastle fans believe beating Ipswich at home on Saturday, which feels like a distinct possibility, will see the momentum swing back into their favour. 

“I’ll take that league table with what’ll be 4 games to go & with us home to Ipswich, & Chelsea home Everton, and Forest home to Brentford! Villa could be 5 behind on Saturday,” wrote another fan.

Another comment read: “Finally something going our way this week. Please, please just beat Ipswich.”

“Beat Ipswich and we are 5 clear of 7th with 4 games left and a better GD hopefully Everton can do us a favour in the early kick off and take something from Chelsea,” said another.

“If we beat Ipswich Town on Saturday, Villa, I don’t think, will be able to catch us,” claimed another.

Another supporter added: “Beat Ipswich Saturday and we’re 5 ahead again .” 

Liam Delap set for Newcastle United audition

Overlooking the Tractor Boys would be unwise but it does not feel disrespectful to suggest Newcastle will be heavy favourites at home.

Still, there is an element of danger involved here. 

Newcastle want to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich this summer and the striker is undoubtedly the player to be most wary of ahead of Saturday’s game. 

Fabian Schar has suffered a hamstring injury and Sven Botman remains a doubt, meaning Emil Krafth may have to depusite.  

The Sweden defender has been excellent when called upon for Newcastle in the Eddie Howe era but Delap will surely fancy his chances up against a man to have played little first-team football for a while now. 

If Newcastle can ensure he doesn’t have a say, three points should come their way.
