What Newcastle have now told Joelinton after claims he could be sold this summer

Newcastle United and Joelinton are at a crossroads, and it is unclear when we will see the Brazilian again.

The 27-year-old midfielder’s Newcastle United future was plunged into doubt last week, with claims that talks to extend his contract at St James’ Park had stalled.

Joelinton‘s current deal runs until 2025, and he is looking for a major pay rise to extend his stay on Tyneside. At the moment, Newcastle are not willing to give him the wages that he wants, which could result in him being sold this summer.

If there is no agreement in time for the summer transfer window, it makes financial sense to cash in and sell Joelinton this summer.

That could potentially mean we never see Joelinton play for the club again, as he is currently out of action due to injury. He is due to undergo surgery, which could result in him missing the rest of the season. However, there is hope that he could be fit again by the end of April.

Regardless, Newcastle have reportedly sent a clear message to Joelinton regarding his future amid contract uncertainty and injury agony.

Newcastle leave Joelinton with a decision to make

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle have told Joelinton that the ‘ball is in his court’ regarding his future at the club.

They state that he will not extend his contract at this moment in time after the latest round of negotiations, and that Newcastle will leave him to make a decision about what he wants to do. Once a decision has been made, the Magpies will then figure out whether or not they should sell him.

It is an extremely delicate situation at the moment, and one that will hopefully be resolved in the way that everybody hopes.

Eddie Howe wants to keep Joelinton at the club, and the majority of fans do not want to see him leave. He is such an important player, and someone who has gone from strength to strength under Howe.

It would be agonising to see them stop working together, but that will likely be what happens if Joelinton continues to stand firm regarding his contract demands.

And if no deal can be agreed, the club would be foolish not to sell. But hopefully it does not come to that.
