Newcastle United fans were loving every moment of their emphatic victory over Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

Despite Eddie Howe missing out through illness, Newcastle United stuck to their game plan and were better than Manchester United in every area.

Alan Shearer raved about Newcastle’s performance, with Harvey Barnes scoring a brilliant brace wedged between goals from Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

There was an electric atmosphere at St James’ Park for the clash and Newcastle’s PA rubbed salt in Man United’s wounds after the full-time whistle.

Newcastle supporters were treated to yet another excellent display, and fans enjoyed one moment in particular when they were able to mock Bruno Fernandes.

Manchester United fans were blown away by Tino Livramento, but their side also couldn’t handle Newcastle’s superior midfield.

The trio of Guimaraes, Joelinton and Tonali dominated a midfield that included Manuel Ugarte, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes.

The latter in particular was targeted by a chant from the St James’ Park faithful.

Once Fernandes was taken off by Ruben Amorim in the second half, Newcastle fans chanted: “There’s only one Bruno…”

His namesake, Bruno Guimaraes, scored Newcastle’s fourth goal just minutes before, and fans spotted what the Brazilian said during his celebration.

Guimaraes appeared to be saying “I’m Bruno” as he pointed to the back of his shirt in celebration.

It is not news for Newcastle fans that Guimaraes is a world-class talent – he has proven that ever since he moved to St James’ Park.

Against Manchester United, he put on a masterclass and shut down Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

Central midfield is Newcastle’s strongest department, and there is a formidable connection building between Guimaraes, Tonali and Joelinton.

Newcastle could add another midfielder to their ranks in the summer, while Lewis Miley will also be itching for minutes.

With Newcastle chasing Champions League qualification, there will be plenty of opportunities for midfield rotation next season.
