It has been a whirlwind few days for Harvey Barnes.
On Saturday he arrived in America to meet his new Newcastle United teammates. Then on Sunday the deal was announced and he made his Toon debut in the 3-3 draw with Aston Villa.
It was a bright showing from Barnes, who pleased Eddie Howe with his first ever outing in a black and white shirt.
Now the hard work really begins as he starts training with his new team ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign.
The move has came at a good time, as the USA trip will allow him to settle in and really get to know his new teammates. That has already started to happen, with a behind the scenes video released by the club showing Barnes’ first interactions with the rest of the Newcastle players.

Harvey Barnes meets his Newcastle teammates for the first time
Newcastle have released a video tracking Barnes’ first two days as a Newcastle United player.
On day one he is seen meeting the staff and players, with the 25-year-old having conversations with the likes of Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier.
There was also a chat with Dan Burn, who was quick to tell Barnes about the baseball mitts he and some of the lads bought during their trip to watch the Atlanta Braves play. It seems like Burn, Sean Longstaff and Jacob Murphy are really taking in the culture, as the baseball mitts were out in force when they reunited with Joelinton last week.
Matt Ritchie’s kind message to Barnes
Barnes also linked up with Matt Ritchie, who is one of Newcastle’s most senior players. The 33-year-old showed his class during his first meeting with Barnes, telling him exactly where to come if he needs anything.
“Pleasure to have you, great signing. If you need anything…top man,” Ritchie said to Barnes.
Ritchie offering to help Barnes with any problems he might have is great to see, and it is something he was probably told by multiple members of the Toon dressing room. That is the type of atmosphere that Howe has created.
The clip highlights the role that Ritchie has behind the scenes. While he is not a regular in the team anymore, he still is an important figure.
If Barnes does need anything, he knows exactly where to go.
