In what seemed like a whirlwind few hours for Newcastle United yesterday, Harvey Barnes was unveiled as a Newcastle player, revealed to be in the USA already and then made his debut.
After an anxious couple of days, Newcastle fans got the reveal they’d been waiting for when the club announced the signing of Harvey Barnes on a five year contract.
The announcement video on Twitter followed a cheeky tweet showing a mock up plane ticket to the USA with the video confirming he had already linked up with his new teammates to take part in the Premier League Summer Series.

Newcastle took on Aston Villa in Philadelphia in their opening fixture of the Summer Series and the two teams continued the high-scoring standard set by the previous fixtures. Newcastle twice came from behind to draw 3-3 with Unai Emery‘s side in an entertaining game.
Eddie Howe said before kick-off that fans would get their chance to see Barnes in action, and true to his word the 25-year-old entered the fray on 70 minutes and got straight into the action linking up with Anthony Gordon down the left.

After the game NBC Sports caught up with Barnes for a brief interview and he was asked what it was that attracted him to Newcastle. Barnes offered up a quick, simple and excellent answer.

“It speaks for itself, it’s a massive club,” said Barnes. “You saw last year how successful the team was and as a player you want to be a part of that and make the journey with them.”

He went on to say how excited he was to play in the Champions League and to taste the atmosphere at St James’ Park as a Newcastle player.
It was only a brief cameo from Barnes but he certainly looked promising and the way he linked up with Gordon certainly whet the appetite for things to come.
