Eddie Howe’s first Newcastle United game is in less than two weeks against Brentford.

The 43-year-old has taken his first training sessions as manager and will be eager to use the international break as an opportunity to instil his philosophy into the players.

The Magpies welcome the Bees to what will be an electric St James’ Park to ignite the club’s new era under our new manager on Saturday 20th November.

The former Bournemouth manager will fancy his chances of securing the club’s first Premier League win of the season against the newly-promoted side, who have lost their last four top-flight matches.

With 27 Premier League games to play and the club being five points off safety, the time on the training ground with his new players will be crucial for Howe.

But with around another 35 points needed to ensure Premier League survival, Howe needs wins and fast.

But what is Howe’s record like against Brentford?

A mixed bag

Howe’s first match against Brentford came 12 years ago when Bournemouth and the Bees were both in League Two.

Brentford won that game 1-0 at Dean Court, thanks to a goal from Billy Clarke. Brentford went up to League One as champions in 2009 with Howe’s Cherries finishing 21st below Macclesfield Town.

After securing promotion to League One in 2010, Howe drew 1-1 at Griffin Park. In the next league game, the then Bournemouth boss got his first victory against the Bees in his third attempt with a 3-1 home win.

Following a period as Burnley boss, Howe returned to Bournemouth in October 2012 and drew 0-0 at Brentford on New Year’s Day in 2013.

Four months later and Howe was celebrating automatic promotion to the Championship whilst Brentford lost in the League One play-off final to Yeovil Town.

The Bees secured promotion to the Championship the following season and on the second match week of the 2014/15 season, Howe’s Bournemouth beat Mark Warburton’s team 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium, thanks to a strike from Junior Stanislas.

Later in the campaign, Brentford and Warburton got their revenge with a 3-1 home win. But at the end of the season, Bournemouth were promoted to the Premier League as champions, whilst Brentford again suffered play-off agony.

In six games against Brentford, Howe has won twice, drawn twice and lost twice (Transfermarkt).

Hopefully his seventh game against the Bees brings a crucial win against the West London side to kickstart his Newcastle career.
