For the second game in a row, Newcastle United players were involved in an incident after the full time whistle.
On Thursday night, multiple Toon players clashed with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who is always the subject of ridicule whenever he plays against the Magpies due to his Sunderland roots.
This time it was Callum Wilson and Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario going head-to-head, with the Newcastle striker not happy with something the Italian did during the game.
After making a routine save to deny Wilson, Vicario stuck his tongue out at the 31-year-old, seemingly mocking him as Spurs coasted towards victory.
The pair came together at full time, while Wilson told the media after the game that he thought Vicario’s actions were disrespectful.
It is easy to understand why Wilson was annoyed by what Vicario did, but it makes his comments about a Jacob Murphy incident earlier this year all the more interesting.
What Jacob Murphy did against Southampton back in January
Back in January, Newcastle played against Southampton in the Carabao Cup semi final. Duje Caleta-Car was given a red card during the first leg at St Mary’s, which led to a hilarious incident involving Jacob Murphy.
As Caleta-Car trudged off the pitch, Murphy gave him a comical wave as he said goodbye.
Toon fans absolutely loved it, while Wilson was also a fan. He spoke about what Murphy did on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, and admitted that he thought what his teammate did was hilarious.
Wilson said: “He’s a funny character and for him coming on as a sub, he gave the team what we needed at that moment, energy, tracking back. They had some tricky wingers and that just summed up his character. The guy has been sent off and he’s waving him off the field. He’s like that every day. It was good, it was funny and it’s made a bit of a thing on the internet! We were all laughing [in the dressing room] but it has probably given them a bit of extra motivation going into the second leg, which you want to limit.”

Callum Wilson simply needs to accept Vicario banter
When you compare the two incidents, it is difficult to see how Wilson can say one is disrespectful while the other is funny.
While it was really funny from a Newcastle perspective, what Murphy did was somewhat out of order and rightly enraged the Southampton players and supporters.
Now the shoe is on the other foot, and Wilson appears to think very differently.
Vicario is the second Tottenham player to have beef with Wilson, after the Newcastle striker commented on Richarlison’s struggles last season. He scored a brace against the Magpies on Sunday, leading to Spurs poking fun at Wilson on their official X account.
Just like with the Pickford incident, we can’t dish it out if we’re not prepared to take it. Vicario did not need to do what he did, but it was just a bit of fun – and the type of fun we would love if it was a Newcastle player doing it.
