Video: Newcastle star Joelinton sings his own Newcastle United chant

Joelinton is a Newcastle United hero nowadays.

The Brazilian was once a struggling forward, but now he has flourished into a box-to-box midfielder under Eddie Howe.

His renaissance last season was a special sight to behold, and one of the highlights of the campaign. The 25-year-old ended the year as the club’s player of the season award – and it was more than deserved.

Joelinton has won over supporters with his performances, and he is now a fan favourite. So much so that he even has his own chant nowadays.

When the Joelinton song was first heard on the terraces, it was dripping with irony. ‘He only cost £40million…’.

For reference, he is still our record signing despite talk of a mega money move this summer, and he was signed as a goal-scoring number nine.

But now it is sang loud and proud to the tune of Oasis’ She’s Electric – even if he doesn’t know who the iconic band are.

There have been special moments with the chant. Away at Brentford after he scored, the post-match celebrations after beating Norwich 3-0, and the aftermath of Newcastle’s final home game of the season. Even Bruno Guimaraes got involved.

And now Joelinton has had a go at singing it himself.

The £40m man sings his own song

The Newcastle number seven has been a guest on the Cast FC podcast. His appearance went viral recently when he said he will get Bruno to invite Neymar to join the Magpies.

Obviously it was tongue in cheek as we’re yet to see Neymar down the quayside. But the transfer window is still young.

Now another clip from Joelinton’s interview has emerged where he sings his own chant for the presenter.

It’s incredibly wholesome content. The smile on his face is a joy to see. He didn’t do the full version, missing out a swear word, but we’ll let him off.

It’s also crazy to see how softly spoken he is. This is the same man who will fight everyone and anyone on a football pitch and bullies his opponents.

We’ve already seen his tough side in pre-season, as he put in a wild challenge against 1860 Munich. Unsurprisingly, he was booked.

Joelinton looks in great shape heading into the new season, and hopefully it’s another good one for him. It won’t be long before he hears his chant again, meaning he won’t have to settle for singing it himself.
