‘Turbo-charged’ Newcastle United star in line for big reward after statement season

Naturally, much of the focus at Newcastle United this summer will be on the players they can bring in.

Having seemingly come through the worst of their problems with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Newcastle United may be in a position to spend this summer.

Indeed, Newcastle insiders think there is money to spend again. Even more specifically, it’s been claimed that Newcastle are looking to sign at least three players this summer.

Still, and while that is seriously exciting, it’s important to remember just how good Eddie Howe’s squad have been this season. Already Carabao Cup winners, they are effectively just one win away from securing Champions League qualification.

With that in mind, some key figures within the Newcastle United squad deserve a reward. All of that brings us to Jacob Murphy

Jacob Murphy in line for Newcastle United contract reward

The 30-year-old has been in remarkable form this season. He’s scored eight goals while registering 12 assists in 33 Premier League games thus far, with only Mohamed Salah providing more assists across the whole division (18).

Former Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce claimed Murphy looked “turbo-charged” right now, having been blown away by his performances.

According to iNews, the club could consider offering Murphy a new contract. His current deal expires in the summer of 2027 but it’s said that Newcastle may look to “renew” his terms despite the fact they want to sign a right-winger this summer.

Jacob Murphy on the brink of Newcastle United history

Murphy has moved into the top five Newcastle players for Premier League assists with 29 in total.

He’s now level with Laurent Robert in joint-fourth and could feasibly catch Rob Lee (31) before the season is finished. Alan Shearer managed 36, while Nolberto Solano is way out in front with 54.

Having seen his career transformed under Howe, a new contract makes sense. Newcastle want to keep Murphy next season despite looking to sign a new winger and, as such, it would be fantastic to see him rewarded for such fine form.

No matter what happens with a new signing in his position this summer, Murphy is here to stay.
