Newcastle United look to be storming back onto the grandest stage of European football.
Exactly one month after winning the Carabao Cup for the first time in their history, Newcastle United kept up their 100% record since that glorious Wembley success.
Indeed, a brilliant Newcastle thrashed Crystal Palace 5-0 to move up to third in the Premier League and continue their march towards Champions League qualification.

Clearly, it’s not done yet and there will be difficult games to come. Saturday’s trip to Aston Villa looks dangerous and Jason Tindall won’t be overlooking them, with the assistant manager set to remain in charge while Eddie Howe is recovering from pneumonia.
Still, with most of the Newcastle squad in such fine form right now, there’s a real feeling they can beat anyone on their day.
Crucial to their success this season has been Jacob Murphy, and his level of form has surprised former Toon manager Sam Allardyce.
- Who is Jacob Murphy? The Newcastle United star who has transformed under Eddie Howe
Sam Allardyce shocked by Newcastle United star Jacob Murphy
Murphy scored a brilliant goal to set Newcastle on their way against Palace, before providing his 11th assist of the League campaign.
Harvey Barnes wants Murphy to get called up for England and it’s difficult to argue with that.
Only Mohamed Salah has provided more assists, while his eight goals of the campaign follow only Barnes and Alexander Isak in the Newcastle squad.
It has been a remarkable season for Murphy. Never before has he been in such dazzling form, albeit he has consistently been a key part of Howe’s set-up. Clearly, the Newcastle United manager has worked wonders with him.
Asked about the winger on talkSPORT, Allardyce said: “He’s like turbo-charged.
“He’s up and down that right-hand side now. I don’t quite know where it’s come from. It’s not just a one-off, it’s his consistent level of performance.
“He must have just clicked on what he does week in, week out.”
Jacob Murphy hailed as the Premier League’s best winger
Chris Sutton believes Murphy is the best winger in the Premier League on current form, having amassed three goals and two assists in his last three games.
Fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp even compared Murphy to a “prime” Kevin De Bruyne, such has been the level of his form.
A £12million signing back in 2017, Murphy is a Newcastle United legend. It was he who provided the assist from which Isak scored the winning goal in the Carabao Cup final, so his place in the club’s history books has already been cemented.
Frankly, it’s hard to think of many better value signings Newcastle have made in the modern era.
