There was ‘no sign’ of £12m Newcastle player in training today, but it’s nothing to worry about

It sounds like the Newcastle United squad is not going to be any stronger when it takes on Everton on Thursday night. In fact, it will be slightly weaker.

That is because of Nick Pope’s injury. The 31-year-old suffered a dislocated shoulder during the 1-0 win against Manchester United on Saturday and is set to be out of action for up to five months.

Losing Pope is a major blow, but it does present Martin Dubravka with an opportunity. He will take the England international’s place in the starting XI against Everton – and for the foreseeable future.

Eddie Howe would no doubt like to make a couple more changes on Thursday night, but an update from Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie suggests that won’t be possible.

Kieran Trippier not involved in Newcastle training on Tuesday

Sky journalist Keith Downie has taken to X to provide some details on who was and wasn’t involved in Newcastle training today ahead of the game against Everton.

He has stated that Kieran Trippier was not involved in the session, which would usually lead to panic from the Toon Army. However, he adds that there is nothing to worry about and that the £12million man was receiving individual treatment inside the training ground.

But while Trippier’s absence is nothing to worry about, the big concern is that there appear to be no fresh faces back in training as the fixtures continue to pile up.

Same Newcastle squad minus Nick Pope set to take on Everton

Downie adds that none of the injured players are back in full training, which means it will be pretty the same squad for Everton that beat Man United at the weekend.

That is despite claims on Monday that Sven Botman was scheduled to return. He has missed the previous 14 games with a knee injury.

There was also a suggestion from the Athletic that Sean Longstaff could be nearing a return, but they did suggest that it would only be towards the end of the week if it were to happen.

It looks like Howe is going to have the same 10 outfield players for the fourth game in a row at Goodison Park, with Anthony Gordon set to face his former club. It will be an interesting night for him, which will likely result in him being showered with boos by the Everton faithful.
