Nick Woltemade has no problems being Newcastle United’s record signing.
The Magpies broke the bank to sign Nick Woltemade during the summer transfer window, with the 23-year-old arriving from Stuttgart for £69million.
That fee made him Newcastle United’s most expensive signing ever, eclipsing the £63million deal that brought Alexander Isak to St James’ Park.
Since his arrival, Woltemade’s price tag has been criticised. That criticism has mainly come from Germany after Bayern Munich failed to sign the giant striker.
But how does the man himself feel about Newcastle United spending so much money on him? It does not bother him one bit!

Nick Woltemade is happy Newcastle United have so much faith in him
Woltemade is currently on international duty with Germany, and has been speaking to Bild about his move from the Bundesliga to the Premier League.
He was asked to give his thoughts on the price Newcastle paid for him, but insists it is not something for him to worry about. If anything, he sees it as a compliment.
“I didn’t choose this situation,” he said.
“I’m the least responsible for the sums involved. Nevertheless, I was happy that Newcastle saw enough potential in me to pay that amount.
“For me personally, it makes no difference whether I go from Werder Bremen to Stuttgart on a free transfer or from Stuttgart to Newcastle for €75million.
“Even though I know that the fee means a few more pairs of eyes are on me. Although, in England, the issue of transfer fees is viewed much more calmly than in Germany. Within the team, the transfer fee isn’t a factor at all.”
The key word for Nick Woltemade and Newcastle United is ‘potential’
Woltemade’s view on his price tag is exactly what Newcastle United will want to hear. It certainly is not weighing him down, and that has been reflected in his performances.
While there is room for improvement, Woltemade has started brilliantly at Newcastle United.
That room for improvement is key, as the Magpies’ record signing is well aware that he was brought in for his potential rather than his current ability.
He has been able to hit the ground running on Tyneside, having already scored six excellent goals. However, the belief is that he will only get better the more he develops as a player and the more his teammates learn how to play to his strengths.
Newcastle invested in Woltemade’s potential, and the early signs suggest it will prove to be a wise investment.
