Newcastle United won the Carabao Cup with a dominant performance against Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.

After 70 long years, the Magpies have finally lifted a trophy. The Carabao Cup will come to Tyneside alongside the Newcastle United players who etched themselves in history with a magnificent performance on the big stage.

Dan Burn had a sensational week after receiving an England call-up. He then scored Newcastle’s first goal at Wembley since 2000. Alexander Isak’s second-half strike ensured that Federico Chiesa’s late goal was only a consolation.

Former Toon star Elliot Anderson was amongst the Newcastle fans at Wembley – the 22-year-old left Tyneside last summer but still has strong emotional ties towards his boyhood club. Fans will now be excited to see Newcastle return to the North East with a trophy, expecting an open-top bus parade to have their chance to see the cup and congratulate their players.

Newcastle have now confirmed that there will be an open-top bus parade on March 29 to celebrate their trophy win, with the Carabao Cup set to be shown off on Tyneside for the very first time.

There was an initial belief that there may not have been a bus parade to celebrate their new honour, and here is why.

Newcastle’s original plan for Carabao Cup trophy

Fans were joined by Newcastle officials at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, with the likes of Yasir Al-Rumayyan seen on the pitch with the Carabao Cup trophy.

Former owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi were proud of Newcastle following the win, claiming their ‘dream came true’ on Sunday night.

Fans will be ecstatic to know that they will still be able to see the trophy in all of it’s glory in the near future, but there are a few things that need to be done before that happens.

In a recent article from Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, it was confirmed that Newcastle are taking part in a warm weather camp in Dubai, with Hope confirming that the Magpies would be taking the trophy with them, pending approval with league chiefs in advance.

Several Newcastle players have also been called up to international duty, including Burn, Tino Livramento and Anthony Gordon, who have all been called up to the England squad meaning time for a parade immediately after winning was slim due to the number of players and staff available.

However, the club have a free weekend at the end of March after their FA Cup exit, meaning they will take the parade then.

When is Newcastle United’s next fixture?

Newcastle fans will be celebrating for weeks after ending their agonising wait for a trophy. But fans won’t be able to see them play again in March.

Players are now going off to play for their respective international clubs. As well as the three England call-ups, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton will play for Brazil in the next two weeks.

The upcoming international break will end on March 25, but Newcastle will have an extra week off after being knocked out of the FA Cup by Brighton earlier in the month. The Magpies will have time to recover from the win with their camp and truly let the trophy win sink in.

Newcastle will next play Premier League football on April 2, when they welcome Brentford to St James’ Park. The Magpies will then travel to Leicester on April 7.
