PIF have some questions to answer as Newcastle United are yet to announce plans for a new stadium, despite the promise that a decision was coming at the end of the season.
It is a once-in-a-generation decision to make, but one fans are hoping to hear sooner rather than later. The future of St James’ Park is still up in the air as PIF have yet to announce plans to build a new stadium.
Newcastle United have played at St James’ Park for the entirety of their existence, but it looks like that will not be the case in the next decade. It has been reported that PIF want Newcastle in a new stadium in the future after learning that they could build a new ground on Leazes Park, just a stone’s throw away from the existing site.
Newcastle’s new stadium is estimated to cost around £1.2bn, and will take several years to complete, but that does not appear to be a figure PIF are worried to part with. Despite that, fans are still being left in the dark over a final decision, despite multiple promises that they would be announced in early 2025.
The Reuben brothers posted a cryptic Newcastle message on social media, talking about the next generation of the club. Many believed that was to do with the new stadium, but nothing has come from it since then.
With fans still waiting on a final stadium decision, a new report has shared what those inside the club have said about decision-making at the club – it is very frustrating.

PIF’s processes could be delaying Newcastle United’s new stadium announcement
PIF have not been known for getting things done quickly at Newcastle. It has been nearly four years since the takeover, and there is no announcement on stadium plans. And while small details of a new training ground have been revealed, there have been few updates on what is happening on that front.
However, according to The Athletic, many people from within the club are growing frustrated with how long it is taking for decisions to be made by PIF. Since they are the majority stakeholders and the group that put in the most money, every decision must be finalised by them.
The report states that almost everyone who works at Newcastle understands that PIF’s “process-driven” decisions are lethargic. One insider mentioned how it takes an “eternity” to do anything because of how slow they are to make decisions.
Those words suggest PIF are yet to make their final decision on stadium plans, or could be holding off an official announcement to look at design concepts.
Newcastle United have already hinted at new stadium plans
Fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the new stadium. Most have come to terms with the fact that St James’ Park will likely be no more in the next decade. However, there are many things that PIF can do with the existing ground to keep the memory alive.
Newcastle could renovate St James’ Park for the women’s team in a move similar to Everton, who have announced their women’s side will be moving into Goodison Park after work is done.
While an announcement is due, Newcastle have already hinted at when the new stadium will be finished. Earlier in June, it was announced that the St James’ STACK’s contract has been renewed until 2031.
Some eagle-eyed fans pointed out that 2031 is the year Newcastle’s new stadium is expected to be completed. The Magpies may have inadvertently planted the seed for the new ground without even announcing it.
With the summer set to be full of transfer announcements, Newcastle could still slip in that stadium call, which would completely change the identity of the club.
