It has been quite a dramatic few days off the pitch at Newcastle United.
While the Premier League shut up shop for over a week to make way for international football, the intrigue continued at Newcastle.
Indeed, after a frustrating summer transfer window so bad it was slammed by club legend Alan Shearer, the fallout has been rather significant.
Eddie Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell are said to have got off on the wrong foot, with the latter thought to have upset people involved at St James’ Park with his comments suggesting the club’s transfer strategy was not fit for purpose.
While Newcastle have distanced themselves from suggestions Mitchell’s future is already in doubt, it certainly isn’t the ideal start for him on Tyneside.
Now, more insight has emerged.

The message Paul Mitchell sent that didn’t go down well at Newcastle United
According to The Times, Mitchell surprised staff with his forceful delivery in his initial speeches to them at the club’s training ground.
He, naturally, detailed what he expected of them and stressed he wanted every aspect of the club to run in an elite way.
Sources quoted in the report, however, suggest the manner of the message did not go down well amongst staff.
Paul Mitchell and Eddie Howe already have a plan at Newcastle
Mitchell has been handed an important role by PIF, so it’s only natural that he’d look to make an instant impact. Just because he may have rubbed people up the wrong way does not mean he is incapable of the job, or that he doesn’t have Newcastle’s best interests at heart.
Still, Newcastle need everyone pulling in the same direction. Luckily, Howe and Mitchell have reportedly decided to commit to work together and push ahead in their plans for the January transfer window.
Teething problems are only natural. Hopefully, a resolution can be found…
