It proved another dramatic weekend for Newcastle United indeed.

Despite the relative lull in action during the international break, there were big stories coming out of Newcastle.

Anthony Gordon, of course, impressed for England as some insight into why exactly he was not handed more of a chance by Gareth Southgate at Euro 2024 finally emerged.

There were also big stories off the pitch. Sporting director Paul Mitchell’s future was seemingly thrown into doubt.

Mitchell and Eddie Howe were said to have got off on the wrong foot and the former is reportedly unhappy with working conditions at St James’ Park.

His criticism of the club’s transfer structure was thought to have upset the likes of Dan Ashworth, Amanda Staveley and Steve Nickson too, so it’s clear that things aren’t going particularly well right now.

Still, more insight has now emerged.

How Darren Eales has reacted to claims Paul Mitchell’s Newcastle future is in doubt

According to The Chronicle, the club have distanced themselves from suggestions that Mitchell could make a quick-fire exit.

Indeed, they suggest CEO Darren Eales has shrugged off any suggestions of unrest and has vowed to back both Mitchell and Howe going forward.

Eddie Howe has already been given assurances by Darren Eales

It seems as if Eales really is keen to see Newcastle move forward under Howe.

Last month, it was claimed that the CEO had given Howe assurances that he would still have a say over the club’s recruitment despite Mitchell’s arrival.

Eales may have the ambition of both to manage but certainly seems willing to create an environment in which the pair can flourish. On paper, that is exciting, although actually getting to that point will obviously require some work.

Hopefully, Howe and Mitchell can go on to work together successfully in the many years to come for Newcastle.
