Newcastle United fans are eagerly awaiting news of who the next England manager will be.

For many, it is because they support England and want to know who Gareth Southgate’s successor is. But for every Newcastle United fan, it is because of the fear that the FA could move for Eddie Howe.

He has been linked with the England job, with Eddie Howe one of the FA’s top targets.

As it stands, Howe is still in charge of Newcastle United, and it does not look as if there will be movement any time soon in the FA’s search for Southgate’s successor.

That is because they have now appointed an interim manager, with Lee Carsley set to be in charge for England’s Nations League games in September.

He is also in the frame for the England senior job, having impressed as the Under-21s boss.

Lee Carsley decision could benefit Newcastle United

Next up for England is Nations League games against Republic of Ireland and Finland, with Carsley set to be on the touchline.

HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that Carsley will take interim charge of the Three Lions, and will be joined by Ashley Cole as part of his coaching staff. And he believes that the FA’s decision could be good news for Newcastle United.

“On the surface it looks like good news for Newcastle,” he said.

“It doesn’t rule Eddie Howe out of the running for the England job, but it puts Lee Carsley in a good position. If he and Ashley Cole get this going during the Nations League and end up winning by getting the best out of Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham then how can they not get the job permanently.

“The FA do like Howe and Graham Potter, but this is a chance to promote from within. It shows that the coaches are coming through the system as well as the players.”

Newcastle will hope that Lee Carsley makes a strong impression

As the FA prepare to take their time over appointing the next permanent England manager, Carsley gets set for an audition.

It is a unique opportunity for the former Everton midfielder – a chance that another target like Howe will not be afforded.

And it is an opportunity that could benefit Newcastle, as they obviously do not want to lose Howe to England. That might be less likely to happen if Carsley makes an impression during his interim stint in charge.

While England fans will obviously want the Three Lions to win their games in September, those of a Newcastle United persuasion will be even more invested in how the national team gets on, as it could have an impact on goings on at St James’ Park.
