Eddie Howe is preparing to welcome an in-form Nick Woltemade back to Newcastle United.

The 23-year-old has had an international break to remember, playing a key role in Germany booking their place at the 2026 World Cup.

Nick Woltemade started both of Germany’s wins, scoring three goals in total. The German media were very impressed with Woltemade against Slovakia, as he helped his country on their way to a 6-0 win.

The striker is now dreaming of his first ever World Cup, but his current priority will be continuing this form at domestic level with Newcastle United.

That will be Eddie Howe’s hope too, and the Toon boss will be ecstatic with what he saw his record signing do during the international break.

Nick Woltemade plays like a poacher as Germany qualify for the World Cup

Woltemade now has 11 goals in all competitions for club and country this season, including one for Stuttgart before his £69million transfer to Tyneside.

Four of Woltemade’s goals have come for Germany, with the 6ft 6in forward playing like a poacher during his previous two appearances.

His three goals against Luxembourg and Slovakia during the November international break all came from him being in and around the penalty box. He got himself into dangerous positions, scoring the type of goals that any great goalscorer will score.

That will have delighted Eddie Howe, who has seen Newcastle’s most expensive player score extravagant goals and do the seemingly impossible in black and white. What he has not seen is him score the easy ones.

But Woltemade’s efforts for Germany clearly show he has a ruthless streak in front of goal. He can get into those kind of positions and score the goals that look easy.

Newcastle United need to create more chances for Nick Woltemade

He now needs to replicate that for Newcastle United, but that is partially down to his teammates.

While Woltemade has done well for the Magpies, he can do even better with the help of the rest of the Newcastle United squad. They need to create more chances for him, as he has proven for Germany that he can take them when given the opportunity.

The big problem Newcastle have with Woltemade right now is getting him in the right positions. The fact he has scored six goals already is impressive, and it is even more impressive when you consider how many chances he has had.

The Magpies’ number 27 has been clinical with the chances he has had, rarely squandering opportunities that come his way.

But he needs more. That is up to the players around him.
