‘The biggest compliment’… Alan Shearer says Newcastle player has just been ‘brilliant’ recently

Alan Shearer has now revealed what he really thinks about one player’s most recent performances for Newcastle United.

Lewis Miley scored his first ever goal for Newcastle at the weekend to top off what has been a string of brilliant displays for the Magpies since he was thrown in the deep end against Bournemouth.

On The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer had big praise for Miley who he claimed had slotted into Newcastle’s team perfectly in recent weeks.

Shearer says Miley is yet to look out of place

The biggest challenge for a lot of young players is often adapting to the physicality and the pace of the Premier League after only playing in youth football.

From the minute he made his first start, however, Miley has rarely put a foot wrong and has managed to keep up with all of his teammates in some very high pressure games.

Against Milan especially the young man looked to be the sharpest midfielder on the pitch, but it would be against Fulham where he would grab that first goal and make his mark in the Premier League.

As Shearer mentions, the biggest compliment that the legendary Newcastle striker could give him is that Miley looks like he’s been playing at St James’ Park for the last decade.

On Miley, Shearer said: “Newcastle back to winning ways. Young kid, 17 year old, scoring his first goal, at home, in front of the Gallowgate End. What a feeling for him and his family. Brilliant, great for him!”

Lineker then added: “He was interviewed with Guimaraes at the end and Guimaraes isn’t exactly old, but he looked like his oldest son! But on a serious note, I know he didn’t start on Saturday, but he has been incredibly consistent for a player of 17 years.”

Shearer responded with: “He probably wouldn’t have got a game had it not been for the injury situation but when you are given a chance – and he obviously has ability because he was on the fringes – you have to go in and make the most of it and he has done that. The biggest compliment I can pay him is he doesn’t look out of place at all, he looks like he belongs there.”

Newcastle have a real gem on their hands

It’s not often that Newcastle get to say that they’ve produced a real local talent from their academy, and while Sean Longstaff has been a great player and warrior for the team, there just seems to be something special about Miley.

The 17-year-old has already received high praise from the likes of Shearer and Gary Lineker, but that doesn’t looked to have phased Miley one bit with each performance for Newcastle better than the last.

Eddie Howe knows that he still needs a lot of time to fully develop with him still being such a young age, but there’s no one better to nurture a promising talent as we’ve seen him do so many times during his reign at the club.
