Alexander Isak continued his spectacular form as he starred for Sweden against Slovakia on Saturday evening.
After a somewhat slow start to the season, Alexander Isak has now rediscovered the form that saw him score 25 goals in all competitions last season.
With four goals in four consecutive matches ahead of the international break, Isak has been “outstanding” for Newcastle in recent weeks.
Isak endured a chaotic start to the international break after Sweden were forced to abandon their warm-weather training camp in Spain, but it certainly didn’t have an impact on Isak come game day.
Sweden beat Slovakia 2-1 in the Nations League with Isak scoring and assisting strike partner Viktor Gyokeres.

Swedish media react to “completely brilliant” Alexander Isak
It only took Isak three minutes to make an impact against Slovakia after he expertly found Gyokeres with a pass to open the scoring.
Slovakia equalised through David Hancko but again just minutes after the start of the second half Isak etched his name onto the scoresheet with what turned out to be the winning goal.
Isak has been in great form for his country this season. Swedish media raved about Isak against Azerbaijan after he scored a brace back in September.
After missing the October break due to his toe injury, Isak returned to the squad as one of 10 Newcastle players called up to international duty in November.
After his goal and assist against Slovakia on Saturday, Swedish media have delivered their verdict on Isak’s performance and it is fair to say they are impressed.
SvenskaFans gave Isak a 4/5 rating – the highest of any player on the pitch and added: “Completely brilliant. Score the winning goal but often one or more levels above everyone else on the pitch. Scorer and passer.”
The high praise continued in Swedish outlet FotbollSkanalen who also judged Isak to be the best player on the pitch with a 4/5 rating.
They wrote: “Best in Sweden and was behind most things going forward. A goal and an assist. Good build-up to Gyokeres’ 1-0 goal. Then a similar pass to Gyokeres who got free and should have made it 2-0. Good finish when he made it 2-1.”
How Martin Dubravka fared in Sweden vs Slovakia
Isak was not the only Newcastle star in action on Saturday night.
His goal for Sweden was scored past Newcastle teammate Martin Dubrakva, who starred for Slovakia on the night.
Dubravka made six saves against Sweden and was given an impressive 7.3 rating on SofaScore – only goalscorer David Hancko topped that rating for Slovakia.
Dubravka is expected to leave Newcastle in 2025 having only played 45 minutes of football so far this season. However, he proved on Saturday night that he is still very much a safe pair of hands if he is needed by Eddie Howe this season.
