Newcastle United are looking to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window as backup for Alexander Isak.
The Sweden international has been unstoppable at times this season but has also struggled with minor injuries. Fans have been left biting their nails after games when Alexander Isak is substituted, waiting for manager Eddie Howe to confirm whether Newcastle United’s star striker is really hurt.
While there are options on the bench to replace Isak, they are not players who fill supporters with much confidence when it comes to finding the back of the net. Callum Wilson is now 33 and has struggled with fitness problems all season. His one goal this season came in a 3-2 win against Birmingham City in the FA Cup.
At just 21, William Osula has time to grow and become a regular first-team starter, but Howe still does not trust Osula to play in important games. The Dane made a rare appearance in Newcastle’s 3-0 win against Leicester City on Monday night, playing as a right-winger rather than a striker.
Wilson’s contract runs out at the end of the season. So the need for a new striker will become even more important in the summer transfer window.
Newcastle United want Liam Delap, but now, a new report has claimed that the club have already made contact with a Serie A star who was poor during a stint in the Premier League.

Newcastle United make contact with Moise Kean
Everton fans will agree that Moise Kean was poor during his time at the Merseyside club. The Italian spent four years at the club, but spent his last three seasons on loan at PSG and Juventus before signing for the Old Lady on a permanent deal in 2023.
His 2023/24 campaign was also rather poor, scoring just once in 32 league appearances for Juventus. His form caused Thiago Motta to sell him to Fiorentina, where he is now thriving.
So far this season, Kean has scored 17 goals and bagged three assists in Serie A. His attacking returns mean there is interest in his signature from the Premier League.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Fiorentina are likely to consider any offers that come their way this summer. Despite their transfer stance, the Serie A side are also keen to hand the 25-year-old a new deal in order to get rid of his €52m (£44m) release clause.
The report also states that Newcastle have already made ‘first direct contact’ with the player, while the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham are waiting to pounce.
Furthermore, the report claims that the Everton flop could be ‘tempted’ to return to the Premier League, despite there also being interest from the likes of Barcelona and Napoli.
Moise Kean’s statistics compared to Alexander Isak at Newcastle United
If Newcastle are to pay Kean’s £44m release clause, there is no doubt the Italian would prefer to be Howe’s first-choice striker. However, that may not be possible given how well Isak has played this season.
The Magpies will be playing European football next season, with their Carabao Cup win confirming they will be in the Europa Conference League as a minimum. However, Newcastle players want the Champions League and are currently on track to return to Europe’s top competition after missing out this season.
| 2024/25 Statistics | Moise Kean | Alexander Isak |
| Appearances (League only) | 28 | 27 |
| Goals | 17 | 20 |
| Assists | 1 | 5 |
Fifth place will be enough for the Champions League, which was confirmed after Arsenal’s win against Real Madrid on Tuesday night.
After his impressive season in the Serie A, there is no doubt that Kean will be eager to play Champions League football for a new club.
