Simon Jordan says he’s ‘glad’ about Alexander Isak’s struggles since leaving Newcastle for Liverpool

Simon Jordan admits he’s taking a relative amount of pleasure watching Alexander Isak struggle somewhat since leaving Newcastle United for Liverpool.

Liverpool broke the British transfer record to sign Isak from Newcastle, but he’s since scored only one goal in five appearances.

Clearly, these are early days for Isak, and it would be foolish to write him off too quickly. Arguably the best forward in the world last season, he’s certainly got a proven track record and is playing in a team packed full of talent.

Still, after such a draining transfer saga, the fact he’s not hit the ground particularly quickly will no doubt be of some interest to Newcastle fans, who had largely turned on the Sweden international before his departure.

Jordan, who was critical of Isak’s behaviour over the summer, admitted he was glad to see the Sweden international have some teething problems.

Simon Jordan aims dig at Alexander Isak

The former Crystal Palace owner was discussing Liverpool’s somewhat unconvincing start to the season on talkSPORT alongside Danny Murphy and Jim White.

While Jordan insisted that this is only a slight blip for Liverpool, he did admit he was glad to see Isak struggle to wholly convince during his first few appearances for his new club.

“I’m quite glad that Isak hasn’t hit the ground running,” he said.

“Because I’d like to see him struggle a little bit. Mean spirited of me, I know.”

Alexander Isak’s Newcastle replacement is outdoing him now

It is interesting that the man who replaced Isak at St James’ Park is not enduring such issues, at least on an individual basis.

Indeed, Nick Woltemade already has two goals for Newcastle all while playing in a team that are yet to click in an attacking sense outside of his contribution.

Newcastle insiders have been thrilled with Woltemade so far and he’s only likely to improve the longer he works under Eddie Howe, who has consistently proven himself able to develop players.

Isak, given all his quality, probably will come good for Liverpool relatively soon but the difference in him and Woltemade at the start of the season is stark.
