Amanda Staveley has paid tribute to the Newcastle United supporters after the Carabao Cup final, but TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has slammed the Toon co-owner for her comments.
Staveley spoke to TalkSPORT after the defeat to Manchester United, and admitted that she was staggered by the support the team received at Wembley.
The scenes across London were incredible all weekend. You couldn’t go anywhere in the capital without bumping into a Toon fan…except for our questionable hotel that probably hadn’t been renovated since the last time the Magpies won a cup.
Staveley spoke very passionately about Newcastle’s support and how disappointed she was that the club couldn’t deliver silverware, but was emphatic in her belief that trophies are on the horizon.
She was moved by the support in Wembley Stadium, but Jordan isn’t buying it.

Simon Jordan responds to Amanda Staveley’s comments
Following the interview with TalkSPORT, Jordan was asked to give his reaction by host Jim White. He admitted that the ownership deserve the plaudits for what they have done so far since buying Newcastle United.
“Does that mean I like the ownership model? Does that mean I admire any more? Not particularly,” he said.
“I think they have done what they anticipated that they would do and I don’t understand this – it’s a PR spin.
“You knew that you were buying a football club where that if you put it into a League Cup final you would inundate London, so let’s dial down the fake humility and be aware of what you have there.
“I think it’s ridiculous to turn around and say you didn’t expect that.
“If I went and bought Newcastle and set the town on fire, I knew that Newcastle getting to the cup final – London would be inundated because that’s what you have got, you have this remarkable fan base.
“I think it’s wonderful PR spin.”
A bit over the top from Simon Jordan
I can see both sides of the coin here. Staveley’s comments about being staggered by the supporters was strange, as what was she really expecting? It was Newcastle’s first cup final since 1999, and the desire to watch the team has massively increased since they bought the club in October 2021.
On the flip side, who really cares? Why Jordan is so irate is unclear, but that has always been his attitude when talking about Staveley and her involvement with Newcastle.
Is it PR? Probably a little bit, but so is every time an owner of a football club speaks to the media. It shows the transparency that supporters want, and it is something we never had at Newcastle during Mike Ashley’s tenure.
The numbers in which Newcastle travelled in were incredible. It shows the love for the club, and the faith that it is going in the right direciton.
Jordan can claim it’s PR spin all he likes, but this is only just the beginning of what Newcastle United are capable of.
