Newcastle United have missed out on signing Michael Olise to Bayern Munich.
The 22-year-old has officially been unveiled as a Bayern Munich player, despite Newcastle United registering an interest in him.
The Magpies did contact Crystal Palace about signing Olise, as some of Europe’s biggest clubs queued up to sign the attacker. Eddie Howe saw Olise as an ideal fit for his front three, but the expectation was that he would sign for Chelsea.
The Blues were considered the favourites to sign him, only for Bayern Munich to swoop in. Bayern competing in the Champions League helped convince Olise, who arrives at the Allianz Arena for £50million.

Simon Jordan makes Michael Olise claim after Bayern Munich transfer
While Champions League football is massively appealing for a player like Olise, pundit Simon Jordan thinks there are two other reasons why he opted to leave Crystal Palace for Bayern Munich, rather than choose to sign for a club like Newcastle.
Jordan has been speaking about Olise’s move to Bayern on TalkSPORT on Monday.
“There are two reasons why he’s gone to Bayern Munich,” he said.
“It’s because Vincent Kompany has managed in England and Bayern Munich paid more money than anyone else.
“If other teams in the Premier League were prepared to pay the €60million that it’s taken to get him out of Palace then he wouldn’t have gone to Bayern Munich, I suspect. He may have stayed in the Premier League. They paid more money and more wages than anyone else was prepared to pay.”
Difficult to agree with Jordan after Newcastle miss out on Olise
Olise has gone to Bayern for £50million, which is a lot of money. It would have made him the third most expensive player in Newcastle’s history, had he arrived at St James’ Park for that amount.
But it is a figure that the Magpies could have afforded, with Newcastle having a summer transfer budget of £100million.
Of course, they may have felt that Olise simply was not worth that much. However, if that was the case then it would make the approach strange, as the winger had a release clause in his Crystal Palace contract.
Even if Newcastle had made a comparable offer to Bayern’s, the lure of Champions League football would surely be too much to turn down. As soon as we missed out on Europe, it made it more difficult for us to land our top targets, and that has proven to be the case with Olise.
Now Newcastle must take their right winger search elsewhere, as they aim to bring in someone who can take the Magpies’ attack to the next level alongside Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak.
Olise would have done that, but new sporting director Paul Mitchell will have to find someone else.
