Alan Shearer knows a thing or two about being a striker, which is why his prediction about Newcastle United star Alexander Isak is very exciting.

The 23-year-old has started the new Premier League season in fine form. He got the nod to start ahead of Callum Wilson against Aston Villa, and justified his selection with a brace.

Isak took both of his goals brilliantly. The first was instinctive following a lunging pass from Sven Botman, while the second was a ‘cheeky‘ chip after a mistake from Ezri Konsa.

The club record signing also had a role in Newcastle’s first goal of the game in the eyes of Jamie Carragher, occupying the Villa defender to allow Sandro Tonali to ghost in behind.

It was a scintillating performance from the Swede, and one that has led to him being included in Shearer‘s Premier League team of the week. He is not the only Newcastle player involved, with the Toon legend also selecting Tonali and Anthony Gordon. On top of that, Eddie Howe is named as the manager.

It is a very Newcastle heavy team of the week, which is to be expected after a thumping 5-1 win over Aston Villa.

Alan Shearer believes Alexander Isak is going to have a ‘huge season’

After including Isak in his team of the week, Shearer made a prediction about the Newcastle forward.

He wrote: “Two goals and looked very sharp. He could be set for a huge season with Newcastle.”

Shearer is expecting big things from Isak, and it is easy to see why. He was exceptional last season during his debut year, and that was despite spending a lot of time out with injury.

With a full pre-season behind him, Isak can be even better for the Magpies, which is a worrying prospect for the rest of the Premier League. He was incredibly sharp on Saturday, and got the goals that his performance deserved.

It will be an exciting race between him and Wilson to be Newcastle’s top scorer, with skipper Kieran Trippier tipping the number nine to come out on top. However, it is Isak who leads after week one, and he will likely stay there if he has the ‘huge season’ that Shearer is anticipating.
