Eddie Howe didn’t realise at first just how good Alexander Isak’s second goal was for Newcastle United in the 5-1 win over Aston Villa.
Alexander Isak‘s second goal of the game for Newcastle was probably the pick of the bunch in the 5-1 tonight as the Sweden international kept the pressure on Ezri Konsa in the Aston Villa box forcing the Villa man into an error which saw Isak take the ball off his feet. With Emi Martinez rushing off his line to close down Isak, the £63million man chipped the World Cup-winning ‘keeper and the ball floated into the far corner.
The Sky Sports pundits, particularly Andros Townsend were very impressed with the finish Townsend still waxing lyrical about the finish when Eddie Howe joined the pundits pitch-side. It gave Howe a chance to get a better look at Isak’s finish on the monitors.
‘Isak is a special player’ – Eddie Howe
“Isak is a special player and he can do special things,” said Howe. “I didn’t realise quite how good his second finish was, I’ve just seen it there.
“He epitomised the team. We were really front foot again and tried to impose ourselves and take the game to Aston Villa and could’ve scored more really.”

Isak could have had about four goals if we’re being honest, with Martinez being quite lucky a couple of times in one-on-one situations with Isak. To be fair there were a few chances missed throughout the game that on another day would have gone in.
Isak will push Erling Haaland for the Golden Boot this season
Callum Wilson was guilty of missing a couple of golden chances when he came on, but he still managed to get on the scoresheet so that’s a successful appearance if you ask me.

I have backed the ‘unplayable‘ Isak to be there or thereabouts for the Golden Boot this season and he’s already neck and neck with the Norwegian cyborg Erling Haaland of Manchester City who will now be his biggest competition this season following Harry Kane‘s move to Bayern Munich.
Next week the two shall meet face-to-face in what is going to be a huge test for Newcastle United in the stupid 8pm Saturday kick-off.
