Newcastle United were full of goals last season, with three players getting double figures in the Premier League.

Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron and Alexander Isak all excelled, but it was the former who was the club’s top scorer come the end of the campaign. It was a great year for Wilson, who found the net 18 times in the Premier League.

The 31-year-old will be really keen to be top of the pile again, as he prepares to do battle with Isak. The duo dovetailed brilliantly last season, and appeared to really spur each other on. There was friendly competition, and it really benefitted Newcastle United.

Defensively, the Magpies were excellent last season. However, they were also capable of blowing teams away with their efforts in front of goal.

Howe will want his team to do that yet again, as he looks to put out a side that is entertaining for the supporters. He will be relying on Wilson and Isak for goals, and it is going to be an interesting battle to see who comes out on top.

Kieran Trippier thinks Callum Wilson will be Newcastle’s top scorer

Kieran Trippier has given his verdict ahead of the new Premier League season. The 32-year-old has featured in a video for Fantasy Premier League, and was asked who will score the most goals for Newcastle.

“Callum Wilson,” he said, defiantly.

Elsewhere, Trippier stated that he will get the most assists and that Joelinton will pick up the most yellow cards.

It should be a great battle between Wilson and Isak

Trippier seems fairly adamant that Wilson will be top of the charts, but Isak will be eager to prove him wrong.

The 23-year-old endured an injury-hit start to life on Tyneside, but really proved himself to be a superstar in the second half of the campaign.

With a proper pre-season under his belt, he will fancy his chances of doing even better this season.

As for Wilson, he is as reliable as they come in front of goal. The number nine is a guaranteed source of goals, so it is no surprise to see Trippier tip him to be the club’s top goalscorer this season.
