Newcastle United resume their Premier League campaign on Saturday afternoon with a trip to face the reigning champions.
It has been two weeks since Newcastle United were last in action in the Premier League with Eddie Howe’s side enjoying success in both cup competitions.
A fiery 2-0 win over Arsenal booked Newcastle’s spot at Wembley for next month’s Carabao Cup final, before a much-changed side won a dramatic 3-2 FA Cup clash against Birmingham City to reach the fifth round.
Newcastle’s main priority this season will be to end the trophy drought and get their hands on silverware, but the Magpies are also in the race for Champions League football.

Manchester City vs Newcastle United score prediction
City will have home advantage on Saturday afternoon, but Newcastle head into the match in better form.
Pep Guardiola’s side crumbled at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening, with the Spanish giants scoring late to steal a 3-2 win. City’s last Premier League match also ended in a humiliating 5-1 defeat to Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Newcastle haven’t lost away from home since December 18th when Brentford beat the Magpies 4-2. Howe’s side have won 12 of their last 14 games across all competitions.
Ian Wright and Roy Keane were tasked with predicting Saturday’s clash on the latest episode of the Overlap.
After Gary Neville said: “I fancy Newcastle here to score goals there. I think we go draw. 2-2,” Wright then responded by predicting a 3-2 win for Newcastle against City.
Roy Keane simply replied: “Brilliant”.
Hopefully their prediction comes true and Newcastle leave Manchester with three points after a five-goal thriller.
What happened last time Newcastle faced Man City?
The reverse fixture between Newcastle and City took place at St James’ Park in September, when the two sides shared the points in a 1-1 draw.
Alexander Isak was ruled out through injury, meaning Anthony Gordon played centrally against City. He scored Newcastle’s equaliser from the penalty spot in the second half after Josko Gvardiol’s opener.
This time around, Gordon was an injury doubt to face City, but reports claim he has overcome a thigh problem and should be cleared to start. After missing the St James’ Park clash, Isak will also be available.

During that draw, Newcastle adopted a counter-attacking style of play, with City having the lion’s share of possession. However, the Magpies still managed 11 shots at goal against City, and with Gordon and Isak available, Newcastle’s goal threat on the break will worry City again.
Eddie Howe played a back five against Arsenal and set up Newcastle to counter attack – he could do something similar on Saturday.
