Newcastle United are preparing to face Manchester City in the Premier League after their cup exploits.

The quest for silverware has dominated the landscape at St James’ Park over the past week, with Newcastle United reaching the Carabao Cup final and advancing in the FA Cup.

But now the Premier League is back, and Eddie Howe must take his players to a stadium where the Magpies have only ever won once. Newcastle United take on Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday, just days after Pep Guardiola’s side suffered a stoppage time defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Eddie Howe will recall some of his major stars to the starting XI, having rotated his side for the FA Cup clash with Birmingham City.

Sandro Tonali and Alexander Isak were both on the bench but will most certainly start, and they have been spotted in training on Wednesday ahead of the game against the Premier League champions.

Also in first-team training is Sean Neave, the 17-year-old striker who was on the bench for the win at St Andrew’s on Saturday. He can be seen challenging Lewis Miley in one of the photos uploaded to Newcastle United’s official website.

The teenager was an unused substitute at the weekend, but being exposed to a senior matchday will have been a great experience.

Neave is a very talented forward with a lot of potential, and it is great to see him continue to work with the first-team.

While he might not be involved at all against Man City, Neave is certainly one to watch for the future. He has been prolific at youth level, netting seven goals in seven Under-18 Premier League appearances this season. That will hopefully translate to senior goals in the coming years.

Anthony Gordon injury latest ahead of Manchester City clash

Anthony Gordon has also appeared in training ahead of Manchester City vs Newcastle United.

The 23-year-old missed the FA Cup fourth round victory with a thigh injury, which was a concern ahead of some pivotal Premier League fixtures and the looming Carabao Cup final.

However, it was reported on Wednesday that Gordon should be fit to face Manchester City, and that now looks likely to be the case.

Gordon has taken part in training alongside the likes of Callum Wilson and Bruno Guimaraes, which should result in him returning to the starting lineup on Saturday.

Elsewhere, there was no sign of Dan Burn or Sven Botman in training after they were forced off against Birmingham City and Arsenal respectively. Burn and Botman are doubts to face Man City.
