Fear set in when Joelinton limped off with an injury against Leeds on Saturday.

The Newcastle star went down midway through the first half, and it looked like his race was run. He did soldier on, but eventually the groin problem forced Joelinton off in the 42nd minute.

He was replaced by Sean Longstaff, and the Magpies battled on to pick up a vital three points. That was the most important thing, as our fight to avoid relegation continues.

However, there was obviously a worry that Joelinton could be set for a spell on the sidelines. That would have been a huge blow considering his recent form.

Luckily, it doesn’t look like the club record signing is going to miss any action.

Daily Mail reporter Craig Hope tweeted on Tuesday that Joelinton’s injury is ‘not serious’. He added that the 25-year-old should be fine for Newcastle’s next game. That’s against Everton on February 8th.

Joelinton injury update is a huge boost for Toon fans

The Joelinton renaissance has been sensational. Who knew our £40millon number nine would turn out to be a midfield general.

He’s flourished in his new role, and become a real fan favourite since Eddie Howe took over from Steve Bruce.

Losing him to injury would have been gutting, and increased the need for a new centre-midfielder to arrive before the transfer window shuts.

While we continue to look for a new option in the middle of the park, they’ll likely play alongside Joelinton rather than instead of him.

Newcastle are currently in Saudi Arabia, and face Al-Ittihad in a friendly on Friday. Joelinton has made the trip, so it will be interesting to see if he features at all in the behind closed doors encounter.
