Newcastle have got to sign Seko Fofana and pair him with Joelinton

Newcastle United need to add a new midfielder players – and Seko Fofana could take the team to the next level.

Sorting a new defence is the priority. Getting cover for injured Callum Wilson is also now high on the agenda.

But Newcastle also need to strengthen their engine room.

Isaac Hayden is also on the sidelines, and Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff have unfortunately been unable to show their best form.

It is a crucial area of the pitch to be strong in.

Just lately, Newcastle have strengthened there by moving Joelinton into a box-to-box role. The Brazilian’s industry has seen him become a very good bit for such a role, and the South American is currently the darling of St. James’ Park.

Newcastle still need to recruit though, and there’s a player they’d would be simply foolish to ignore at this point.

A few weeks ago the club were linked with a move for the Lens captain Fofana.

Foot Mercato claimed in November that the Ivory Coast international was of interest to the Magpies.

The 26-year-old is having a brilliant season, and last night he was at it again.

Fofana was instrumental as Lens beat Lille on penalties to advance in the Coupe de France.

He had scored both of Lens’ goals in the 2-2 draw after 90 minutes. He then converted his penalty in the shootout.

According to the post-match statistics, Fofana put in a brilliant display, winning 4/5 duels and completing 49/54 passes (91% accuracy). He also completed three key passes.

Newcastle need to seriously consider Seko Fofana transfer

Fofana is going from strength to strength, and he would make a huge difference to not just Newcastle, but many other teams.

The star is consistently dominating games over in France now.

There is a chance that Newcastle could take their midfield to the next level by putting Fofana and putting him in their with Joelinton. The two of them could be a real force together operating ahead of someone like Jonjo Shelvey.

GFFN recently placed Fofana at the very top of their 100 players list for 2021. He is the first non-PSG player to achieve that feat in the nine years the website have been doing their list.

The Newcastle recruitment officials will probably have all their targets now. But hopefully the brilliant Fofana is genuinely on their list.
