According to multiple reports, Newcastle United have agreed a fee with Arsenal to sign Joe Willock.
The news broke on Sunday evening, one week before the new Premier League season.
It seems all but certain that Willock will be heading back to St James’ Park – this time on a permanent deal.
Various fees have been reported. The Athletic state it is in excess of £20million, the Daily Mail believe it is £22million, while Sky Sports claim it is £25million.
Regardless, it is one of the most expensive signings in Newcastle’s history. It looks like the Willock deal will only be eclipsed by Joelinton’s 2019 arrival.
It’s a signing that Newcastle desperately need, and one that finally looks set to become a reality. But why have Arsenal decided to sell the promising youngster?

According to the Athletic, Arsenal have decided that this is a great opportunity to cash in on the midfielder.
They add that Mikel Arteta was open to integrating Willock into his squad, but that a £20million offer would always likely force him out of the Emirates.
Just like Newcastle, Arsenal need new signings too. And they need to sell players to raise funds.
After his loan spell last season, Willock’s value dramatically rose. He scored eight goals in 14 Toon appearances. Before joining Newcastle, he’d only scored once in the Premier League.
Newcastle got the best out of Willock, and in turn created an opportunity for Arsenal to move him on.
But their loss will be our gain. Willock changed the way we played last season, and bringing him back permanently gives us more stability going forward.
It’s a big signing by Mike Ashley, but we still need a couple more bodies before the transfer window closes.
