“Joe Willock, we want you to stay.”

Newcastle United fans finally got the chance to see Willock in the flesh on Wednesday night, and he didn’t disappoint.

The on-loan midfielder scored the only goal of the game, continuing his rich vein of form.

His header took his total to seven for the season, despite only arriving in January.

Willock also made history, becoming the youngest player ever to score in six consecutive Premier League games.

The 21-year-old has proven to be an inspired signing. He has changed the way we play, and ensured we aren’t totally reliant on Callum Wilson for goals.

Willock has a clear knack of arriving in the box at the right time, and it has won us vital points.

However, it hasn’t just been about goals. His energy has helped get us up the pitch, while he has shown composure in possession that we rarely see.

In just four months, Willock has proven himself to be the complete midfielder.

But what does the future hold?

Steve Bruce has made it very clear he would like to sign Willock permanently.

An initial fee of £20million was reported, but that might have increased following Willock’s goal glut.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed he may now cost £30million.

But based on his current form, we must pay whatever it takes.

Willock scored on his debut against Southampton, but admitted the one thing missing was fans.

He experienced them on Wednesday night, and they sang his name all evening long.

“Joe Willock, we want you to stay.” That was Newcastle fans’ five-word message to the midfielder.

Hopefully he heard us. And hopefully Mike Ashley did too.
